Arctic Adventures!

We're really excited by our Arctic theme in Class 1! Over the last two weeks we've made snow for the animals, been explorers in the research station and helped the Inuit girl to find her lost toys! We've also explored the ice outside! We have been inspired by a variety of wonderful arctic stories, including The Last Polar Bear and The Polar Bear Son.

In mathematics we've been beginning to learn our number bonds to 10 / 20, we have looked at doubling and had an introduction to weight.

Below are a selection of photos to give you a taste of our work:

Wow a very busy week

This week the children have looked at symmetry, patterns and repeating parterres in Maths.  Then in Literacy they have been writing about James from 'The Snowman' and the best memory they have from their adventure with the snowman.

In PE we learnt the words and a dance to 'I'm a Little Tea Pot'  the children then performed it to Miss Rayner.

The Snowman - weeks 1 & 2

In Class 1 we have been watching the film 'The Snowman' by Raymond Briggs and doing our work based around this. No matter how many times I watch this film, I still feel inspired by it and the children have absolutely loved it: 'Wow, look!' was the reaction as the Snowman started to fly with
James!

So far we have made some beautiful snowmen, orally told the story and made little mini books by sequencing pictures from the story. Today we have even made symmetrical snowflakes as part of our maths work. In the role play our travel agents is up and running! We even had snow last Friday for our Winter Wonderland Topic!

Enjoy some of our photos below of the children's work:

Welcome back!!!

It has been a lovely few days back.

The children have been telling us all the fabulous gifts they got for Christmas.  The children have written all about their best gift.
We took them into the Computing suite to let them look for pictures of their toy.  This was a lovely first lesson in the suite and the children were all on task and totally enjoyed it.

The children have also been helping Miss Rayner with the new topic display that I must say is looking marvelous, so well done children!!

A copy of today's letter encase it got lost.

Just to let you know, from next Friday (13th) PE will be on a Friday afternoon not a Wednesday.  We will be having PE just after lunch on a Friday and before Golden Time.  Due to timetable restrictions your children will not have time to change and will be coming home in their winter PE kit.  Therefore could you please ensure your child has a pair of navy or black PE trousers and a navy or black PE jumper.
Also £5 snack money is due for this term.  Please could your contribution be in cash only and handed to the office in a named envelope.
Finally if you have any old metal pots, sauce pans, wooden spoons, whisks and any other kitchen utensils you no longer require could you please donate them to class for our mud kitchen.  If you Google mud kitchen you will see what sort of items are needed to spruce it up.

Could I also add, which i forgot, can all children have hats and gloves if possible as we will be outside a lot over the next term.
