Friendship Week and Mickey Mouse Birthday

This week has been Friendship Week. The children have read the Story of The Rainbow Fish.  They have made a display to show what they have done this week.  They children each made a fish from materials.
In Literacy the children played a game, they had to say something nice about a person in their class. They wrote these on bubbles for the display.  These are a few examples...

He is kind
She plays with me.
He is my best friend.
She is funny.

To celebrate Mickey Mouse's Birthday the have been making birthday cards and cakes.

They made a train track to take Mickey and his friends around his Club House Land,
The children listened to stories written by year 6 pupils about friendship.  They had to answer questions about the stories.

Thinking Things Through Maths
This week the children worked in small groups to build robots.  They worked on listening to each other and team skills.  The robots are a work in progress and the children will be continuing with them next week.

Week 2

We've had another very busy week in Class 2!

The highlight was Mr Malcolm coming into school and showing us how to use an apple press to make delicious apple juice - it really was wonderful! The children were excellent at taking turns, listening carefully and remembering their good manners!

In maths we worked on recognising numbers up to 6 without counting, and  partitioning a set of five or six objects in different ways and beginning to record these numbers as an addition sentence. We made the most amazing rangoli patterns with chalks (outside) and powder paints, glitter and sequins (inside). We enjoyed listening to different versions of the story of Rama and Sita.

We're also practising letter formation and applying our phonics when reading!

Enjoy some of the photos below. Also a message from Miss Stafford:

Dear Parents,
This term our theme in Class 1 is celebrations.  On Thursday the 24th November, we will be having a themed party day to celebrate Mickey Mouse’s birthday.  As we are celebrating his birthday, we would like children to dress up as Mickey or Minnie Mouse.  Please don’t feel you have to go out and buy a costume, just use what you already have e.g red shorts/ trousers and a black top for Mickey or a spotty dress for Minnie.  Any questions please don’t hesitate to ask a member of class 1 staff.

Diwali and Bonfire Night

This term we will be looking at many different celebrations such as Diwali, Bonfire Night, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

To start the term off we have been learning about Diwali and Bonfire Night.  The children have made Diva Lamps from the story Rama and Sita.

The children have independently made sparklers from different materials.  They had to think about how to join the pieces together unaided.

In Ltieracy the children have written words to describe the sounds fireworks make.  This activity encouraged them to use lots of phonics and blending.

Mrs Sibley took the children for maths on Thursday where they learnt about Capacity.  They used water, sand, marbles and pasta.  The children had to talk about the containers they used and whether they were full, half full or empty.
