December 2014

Writing
The Year 1s - We wrote an information book about The Romans.  We had to include a contents page, each page needed a fact and then the picture had to go with the fact, lastly we had to number the pages.
                                                                                                                                              By year 1
Reception - Santa came to visit.  He was poorly, he had a cold.  He needed help with the presents for the children because he was not feeling well.  We looked at a picture that had a fairy tale character on it.  We had to think of what our character would give as a present.
Cinderella gave one of her glass slippers.
Little Red Riding Hood gave a basket of apples.
Pinocchio gave his  hat.
Puss in Boot gave his boots.
I was a pig and I gave him sticks to build a house.
Belle gave a dress.
I was Snow White, I was going to give him my books.
I was a pig I give bricks to Santa because he was not very well and he could build a house.
                                                                                                                                         By Reception.

Maths - Whole Class Thinking Things Through
We had Elves and Snowmen who needed new outfits.  We could use 3 colours and each character had to look different.

Creative - As a class we have been making Father Christmas, Reindeers and Snowmen by cutting them out and ordering them to look like a character.  We made Olafs.  We made baubles for display in our window.  We made our Christmas cake with Miss Rayner when we mixed it we made a wish.  On Thursday we iced our cakes and decorated them with tiny holly and berries.  We made our cards for mummy and daddy.

On Monday Afternoon we had a museum all the year 1s were curators.   We had to show the parents what we did and tell them all about the pictures we have been doing.

This week's blog was written completely by the children, all I did was type out their sentences.
Class One would like to wish you a Merry Christmas (At this point of writing they are all singing 'We wish you a Merry Christmas'..I hope you can hear them because it is quite loud)

Have a wonderful holiday break and see you next year.

Since half term...WOW!!!

Well Class 1, what a few weeks we have had, jam packed with so much learning.

The Year 1s have been learning about how to write a diary and what the main features are...ask them, can they remember?  They have written diaries for everything from wombats to worms and even pretending to be the Tortoise or the Hare from the play they watched before half term.

They have also been writing addition sums to 10, to do this they have used Numicon.  The children have started to make number bond activities for home learning.
At the same time in maths the reception have  used Numicon and explored what each colours value is.  They have investigated the Numicon by pushing it into bread or playdough and counting the dots,  then to extend their learning they wrote a simple addition sum to match.

As it was Remembrance this week we looked at a book called 'The Hen and the Great War'.  From this the children wrote postcard home from the boy Arthur to his mum talking about Bertha the Hen he had found.  The children enjoyed the story and  have talked a lot about Bertha (I hope they have also at home!!)
Keeping on the theme of poppies and addition sums, the children made poppies and had to add together the circles used for petals and stem.
Our poppy addition

We have made lemon and poppy seed shortbread this week to stay

 with our poppy theme.
