Aplphabet Song

Dear Grown ups,

We are learning the letters of the alphabet and we have been singing this song with Mrs Wainwright.

The children wanted me to tell you where to find it so they can sing it to you in the holidays!

We realised that the song is American, so please remember to say 'zed' instead of 'zee'!

Hope you enjoy learning it together.

Last week of term!

It has been such a fun term for Mrs MacMorrin and myself.  We have really enjoyed learning about the Americas with you and I'm sure we will have lots of fun in our final week before the Easter holidays.

You should all have received your invitations to the Carnival, which will be after playtime on Thursday this week.  I know that some of you are busy thinking about the homework task - to make a hat, mask or headdress to wear to the Carnival.  The theme is Rainforest animals, so you could make it look like your favourite animal!

During this themed session we will be listening to South American party music and we will be playing the percussion instruments that we made last week.  Miss Rayner helped us to make a wonderful ribbon pole, which we will be taking with us on a Carnival-style dance through the school grounds!  It should be a lovely, lively, colourful end to our topic.  Please remember that we are staying in school uniform so that we can be smart for our Easter service in the church later that day.

Mrs MacMorrin and I will be busy this week making plans for our new topic after the holidays - watch this space for more information!

Looking forward to sharing some end of term pictures with you later this week.

Trapped! Freezing and Melting!

At the beginning of this week, we did lots of experimenting and investigating. Some arctic animals were trapped in blocks of ice! We put them in different places - inside, outside, in cold water and in hot water, then we predicted which of them would escape first and then we waited to see if we were right.

While we were waiting we made some snow bears, some snowmen and some igloos from ice cream. We then enjoyed eating them for our snack - before they melted!

Lastly we made four ice cream snowmen and put them in different places - one back in the freezer, one in the fridge and one outside and one in the classroom. Again we predicted which would melt first, second, third and fourth!

It was great fun and in the afternoon we had a go at recording our results like all good scientists do!

World Book Day

Well done everyone for your wonderful World Book Day costumes!  In Class 1 we had lots of fun: in the morning we read 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' and made a huge map of the journey.  We then turned our map into a graphic musical score and used it to create a musical version of the story - it was wonderful!

In the afternoon we used one of our favourite stories - 'Lost and Found' by Oliver Jeffers - as the inspiration for our activities.  We made clay penguins, retold the story in our own words with coloured pictures and used plastic junk modelling to make our own boats.  We even tested if they would float!  We drew penguins using instructions written by Oliver Jeffers - see if you can draw one at home with this link:  http://www.theguardian.com/childrens-books-site/gallery/2011/jun/27/how-to-draw-penguins-oliver-jeffers#/?picture=375870801&index=0

We all had lots of fun, and I think some of our grown ups enjoyed the activities as much as the children did!  I hope you enjoy the photographs below - have a lovely weekend, everyone!
