Week 4 - The Rescue Party!

We've had another week of fun learning in Class 1!

In maths we've been learning to count, match numerals to a set, and begun to subitise numbers to 6 - i.e. recognise how many there are in a set up to six without counting - e.g. dots on a dice. We've used number tracks to recognise numerals up to 20.

Percy the Park Keeper also wrote us some letters, asking children for their help in rescuing some of his animals who had got themselves into trouble in our Early Years Area! Rabbit and cockerel got stuck at the top of the sand pit, frog and mouse got stuck at the top of the tower! The children thought about who they could call on for help: policemen, firemen, ambulance crew and inside we set up  a hospital for the animals and dolls who had hurt themselves. The children then dressed up and used team work and problem solving skills to rescue the animals. Some children recorded their rescue story in drawings and mark making in the afternoon, others wrote to Percy saying that all the animals were now safe!!

The children have also been making hedgehogs from paper plates and developing their scissor skills!!

Have a great weekend and see you next week!

Livia is holding 'Dan Dragon' who is hiding some of the numerals, Olivia is going to guess which
he has taken!

Counting objects in a set, ordering numbers and subitising numbers to 6.

Paper plate hedgehogs!

The policeman tries to rescue rabbit!

How are we going to reach up that high?

Nurses standing by to care for frog when the firemen have got him down from the tower!

Taking a risk!

Nearly did it!

Well done, we rescued rabbit!

Off to hospital to make sure he's ok!

This time it's cockerel who's in trouble and before you ask, he can't fly  because he's damaged his wing!

Fireman Miles is on the phone calling for reinforcements! Nurse Sophie is standing by!

Let's cordon off the area!

Let's see if we can do it together!
