Percy the Park Keeper Stories, Rosie's Walk and The Very Hungry Caterpillar!

We had lots of fun this week continuing with activities based around Percy the Park Keeper. We read Badger's Bath and A Very Useful Little Friend. We also enjoyed reading some stories from our new Fordham's Awesome Book Box. One of these - Rosie's Walk by Pat Hutchins, we used to learn about positional language in maths. We also used Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar to learn the days of the week and sequencing times of the day.

We have also been checking the children's phonic, reading and maths skills to finalize our assessments of the children this half term and this will continue next week along with time for the adults and children to talk during learning conferences and look at their 'learning journey books' together, to celebrate the children's learning this half term.

The children have been doing some great emergent writing during their role play in the animal rescue center, writing prescriptions and information about their patients. They improved their fine motor skills by cutting and applying bandages to the animals and dolls!

We also enjoyed icing Percy's animal cakes: a fox, some hedgehogs and an owl. The children's counting and sorting of white and milk chocolate buttons was amazing!!! And we enjoyed an extra snack to taste our cakes - they tasted as good as they looked!

The children have also been making pictures with 2-D shapes and talking about the shapes used.
