Week 3- Hungry Caterpillar and Practical Maths

Week 3 - This week we are looking at caterpillars and butterflies.  We will be reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar and putting action to the story to help us remember the whole book.  We have caterpillars in class and the children have been watching them grow, they are now quite big and are not far off forming their chrysalis.
In maths we are concentrating on addition this week by using our number bonds to 10 and then to 20.   The children will be doing things through practical challenges.
We have been talking about how we can help at home, the school and the village and the children decided picking up litter was a good way to start to help the environment.

We have talked about how to stay healthy, why it is important and then the sorts of foods that are healthy and unhealthy.  The children made their own healthy snack.  Homework
Year 1 - This week will be a phonics sheet, a maths task and reading your own book.
Reception - I will set a new home learning task (remember you can keep your books for two weeks to complete the Home Learning task), you will also have phonics.
We have been impressed with the home learning from last week and we look forward to sharing these with you soon.

Homework will be set later this week.

  1. Class one you're very lucky monkeys! I'm a little bit older then you guys and I've never seen a chrysalis before! How exciting. I would very much love to come and see your chrysalis's one day. What a marvellous opportunity you have to learn about the amazing life cycle of a catterpillar.
